Refund Policy

Last updated: July 21, 2026

We sell a few different things through different routes, so the answer depends on which one you bought. All payments are handled by DTC Guys, LLC, a California limited liability company, trading as Modern Hero Collective.

How the charge appears on your statement

Payments to us show up on your bank or card statement as DTCGUYS, sometimes followed by the name of what you bought. If you see that and do not recognize it, it is us. Email lee@leemalcher.com before you dispute it and we will sort it out the same day.

Digital editions and guides bought directly from us

Digital products are non-refundable once access has been delivered, because a file cannot be given back. That said, if your download does not work, you were charged twice, or you were charged in error, email us and we will put it right the same day. We would far rather fix a problem than leave you out of pocket over a few dollars.

Books bought on Amazon

Paperback and Kindle editions are sold and fulfilled by Amazon. We never take your payment for those, so we are not able to refund them. Returns run through Amazon under their returns policy, and their customer service is the fastest route to a resolution.

Audits and one-off engagements

Before work begins, you can cancel for any reason and receive a full refund. No questions, no deductions.

Once the engagement has begun, payment is non-refundable. The value in an audit is the analysis and the judgment behind it, and by the time it is underway that work has been done and cannot be returned. If you are unsure whether it is right for you, ask before you pay rather than after. We would rather turn work down than take money for something that was never going to fit.

Retainers

Retainers run month to month unless the agreement says otherwise. Either side can end it with 30 days written notice. Fees covering that notice period remain payable, and work continues through it. Fees already paid for months that have been worked are not refundable.

If something has gone wrong

If the work is not what was agreed, tell us. Email lee@leemalcher.com, set out what is off, and we will either put it right or come to a fair arrangement. That is faster and better for both of us than a formal dispute, and we would rather hear it directly.

Before you file a chargeback

Please contact us first. A chargeback takes weeks to resolve and locks both of us out of a sensible conversation. We answer email quickly and we have never refused to talk something through. If we genuinely got it wrong, you will not have to fight us over it.

How to request a refund

Email lee@leemalcher.com with the invoice number or the email address you paid from, and what you are asking for. We respond within two business days. Approved refunds return to the original payment method and typically take five to ten business days to appear, depending on your bank.

Where the signed agreement differs

If you have a signed proposal or statement of work with different cancellation or refund terms, that document takes precedence over this page.
